Sally Lahmon Studio
For thirty years teaching writing and literature in higher education, I lived inside language, helping others find their voice. When I retired in 2025, I picked up a brush.
What I immediately discovered was that painting came from the same place as teaching: looking closely, finding what is beautiful, and helping others see it.
As a professor, I loved finding the lines in a student’s essay that revealed something true and powerful about the writer that they didn’t yet recognize in themselves.
As a painter, I see beauty everywhere and want to share that feeling with others. I am less interested in simply recording what a place looks like and more interested in capturing how it feels to belong there.
I live in Dayton, Ohio, and much of my work is rooted in the places I love. Every painting is an act of noticing and a call for you to do the same: Look. This is beautiful. This is worth seeing.
Original paintings are available in Hey Neighbor! in the Maraluna shop in Oakwood, Ohio, and in my Etsy shop.
